Icon painting:

Studying the age-old icon painting techniques, making copies of various schools of icon painting, our Artel paints icons in different stylistic manners using traditional techniques and materials. The icons are painted on boards of linden, plate with canvas and gesso ground. In our work we use tempera, gold foil and gold leaf.

- Choice of board for icon.
- Preparation of icon base (gesso ground, undercoat)
- Icon painting (with tempera or oil paint, gilding with gold leaf).
- Laying lax-seed oil varnish for icon protection.
